Background: I was born in Lincoln and have lived in the city nearly all my life and since the 1980s in Carholme. Married to Sue we have three grown-up children. Until 2016 I was a Lecturer in Politics at the University of Lincoln and the Open University and before that a Civil Servant and a Social Worker.
Council Work: I have represented Carholme Division since 1989. At various times I have been Leader of the Council, Leader of the Opposition and Chair of the Value for Money Scrutiny Committee. Currently I am Leader of the Labour Group and Chair of the Overview and Scrutiny Management Board which monitors the performance of the council. At a national level I am Vice Chair of the Labour Group on the County Councils Network.
Community Involvement: I am Chair of the Carholme Community Forum which amongst other things organises the annual Carholme Gala. I am also a governor at St Faiths Infants School. I hold surgeries at Burton Road Methodist Church Hall from 10-11am every first and third Saturday of the month.
Current Political Priorities:
- Get all-night street lighting restored,
- Open a Park and Ride facility to relieve traffic congestion in the City,
- Improve Residents Parking facilities in Carholme,
- Fight for more council funding for services for children and young people and also for older people in need of support.
Please contact me on Lincoln 535086 or at firstname.lastname@example.org if you think I can help on any County Council matter.
