Background: I was born in Lincoln and have lived in the city nearly all my life and since the 1980s in Carholme.  Married to Sue we have three grown-up children. Until 2016 I was a Lecturer in Politics at the University of Lincoln and the Open University and before that a Civil Servant and a Social Worker.

Council Work: I have represented Carholme Division since 1989. At various times I have been Leader of the Council, Leader of the Opposition and Chair of the Value for Money Scrutiny Committee. Currently I am Leader of the Labour Group and Chair of the Overview and Scrutiny Management Board which monitors the performance of the council. At a national level I am Vice Chair of the Labour Group on the County Councils Network.

Community Involvement: I am Chair of the Carholme Community Forum which amongst other things organises the annual Carholme Gala. I am also  a governor at St Faiths Infants School. I hold surgeries at Burton Road Methodist Church Hall from 10-11am every first and third Saturday of the month.

Current Political Priorities:

  • Get all-night street lighting restored,
  • Open a Park and Ride facility to relieve traffic congestion in the City,
  • Improve Residents Parking facilities in Carholme,
  • Fight for more council funding for services for children and young people and also for older people in need of support.

Please contact me on Lincoln 535086 or at if you think I can help on any County Council matter.
